Why new years resolutions don’t work
ByHow are we going with those new year resolutions…
I read an article over Xmas where the British Gold Medal winning athletes were asked what their new years resolutions where.
Yes, for ONCE it was a decent sized article about 30 people in total were surveyed.
Thee were 2 main themes in their responses.
A number said they were going to make more time for themselves, spend more time with their family and to relax.
The OTHER group said and I’m paraphrasing here.
Don’t make promises on a specific day, just decide what you are going to do and DO IT.
So often we put things off and say we will do X on such a date or when Y happens we will get started.
We BARGAIN with OURSLEVES.
I believe when we negotiate with ourselves we sow the seeds of ultimate failure.
It’s vital to take ACTION at the point of making a decision.
If you decide that you are going to eat healthily, don’t wait till tomorrow MORNING to start clear out all the rubbish food from your cupboards and plan what your next meal is going to be right now.
You’re kidding yourself if you say
‘I’ll just have this last bowl of ice cream and then I’ll start’
